A 31-year-old Filipina who was recently terminated as a domestic
helper, has been sentenced in
A. Corpuz, who is out on recognizance, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft before Magistrate Bina Chainrai yesterday, Dec 16.

The prosecution said Corpuz went to the store on the ground
floor of Hang Lung Centre on
The guard saw the accused take one handbag worth $159 and a pair of ladies’ shoes worth $329 on the first floor of the shop, then put them in a recyclable shopping bag.

She then moved to the second floor and took a pair of kids’ shoes valued at $179, two kids’ toys worth $99.80, three bottles of nail polish worth $149.70 and four pieces of clothes valued at $269.80, all of which she also stuffed into her shopping bag.
Corpuz then left the store without paying, but was stopped by the guard outside. The unpaid items were found in her bag. The case was reported and a police officer who responded arrested her.

In a video recorded interview, the defendant admitted her offense, saying she did it out of greed. She had no previous record.
