Courtyard Shatin added as quarantine facility for FDHs

12 November 2021

By The SUN

Courtyard Marriott Hotel will charge $650 a night, booking to start Nov 15
The Hong Kong Labour Department has announced that from Dec 8, the Courtyard by Marriott Hong Kong in Sha Tin will be added as a designated quarantine facility for incoming foreign domestic helpers.

Labour said booking for the rooms at Marriott Shatin will start at 9:30am on Monday, Nov. 15 through www.marriott.com/HKGST. The hotel will charge $650 a night,  inclusive of three meals, for a total cost of $13,650 for the 21-day quarantine.

A total of 500 rooms at Marriott Shatin will be allotted for vaccinated FDHs coming to work in Hong Kong. This is on top of the 800 rooms set aside for them at Penny’s Bay Quarantine Centre and the 500 at Rambler Garden Hotel in Tsing Yi.

Marriott Shatin will replace Silka Tsuen Wan hotel as the third DQF for helpers. Silka, which charges the most at $800 a day, had only about 400 rooms set aside for the incoming workers.

According to Labour, Silka Tsuen Wan will be used for other quarantine purposes starting on Dec. 1.

Silka Tsuen Wan which charges $800 a night will stop being DQF at end of Nov

Anyone booking a room at any of the DQFs will need to provide the FDH’s passport copy, valid employment visa and recognized vaccination record (or yellow card for those coming from the Philippines) for verification. The FDH will also need to provide all these documents for verification upon check-in at the hotel.

“The hotel will adjust the number of rooms open for reservation each day having regard to the overall booking situation,” said Labour.

Its statement added that while the government understands the need of local families for FDHs, it has to balance this out with the strict policy of guarding against the importation of cases.

But it did not rule out adding more quarantine facilities for FDHs when the global and local epidemic situation eases.

Pindutin para sa detalye

As a reminder, Labour said employers and agents should only book an air ticket for their FDHs after a room has been successfully reserved in a DQF.

Failure to submit the required documents or settle the payment within the specified period will lead to the cancellation of a booking.

Payment will be refunded to the person who made the booking if the FDH tests positive for Covid-19 before arrival in Hong Kong, or because of flight cancellations by the airline, provided supporting documents are submitted in advance.

If the check-in date is changed due to other special circumstances, the hotel will determine the merits of each case in deciding whether to refund payment.

A FDH who does not have a confirmed booking with a DQF will not be allowed to board a flight to Hong Kong or may be denied entry on arrival.

Up to six thousand of FDHs, mostly coming from the Philippines and Indonesia, have been struggling to book quarantine places in Hong Kong since late August, when the government lifted a travel ban on those who received their vaccination in their home countries.

FDHs who were vaccinated in Hong Kong had gone on home leave may choose to quarantine at any DQF or at any of the other designated hotels on their return.
