Bring out those woolies again, as temperatures will plunge on New Year's eve |
Get ready for very cold and very dry New Year’s Eve and New
Year’s Day, when morning temperatures will drop to 7ºC and 8ºC in the urban
areas by Thursday, and two degrees lower in the New Territories, the Hong Kong
Observatory said.
The Observatory urged the public to prepare sufficient
warm clothing and appropriate safety measures to protect themselves and their
families from the persistent cold weather.
They should also take care of the elderly and persons with
chronic medical conditions, and render assistance to them as appropriate.
When doing outdoor activities, especially hiking, they should
stay vigilant and avoid prolonged exposure to wintry winds that may lead to
hypothermia, the Observatory said.
They should also beware of the high winds, which will make
people feel especially cold.
Today’s moderately warm weather, which ranged from 19ºC to 24ºC,
will cool by tomorrow night as a cold front moves across the south China coast,
according to the forecast.
The weather will become significantly cooler and rather windy on
Wednesday, with temperatures ranging from 11ºC to 19ºC. They will drop
drastically to between 7ºC to 12ºC on Thursday.
The Observatory said the weather will stay cold with morning
temperatures of between 10ºC and 14ºC for the next few days over the region.
It will be a bit warm on Sunday with temperatures of 13ºC to
18ºC as there will be sunny intervals during the day. Bright periods will
continue on Monday, raising temperatures a little higher to 14ºC to 19ºC.
Fresh easterly winds are expected tonight
and will moderate tomorrow.
They will strengthen from the north tomorrow night, bringing a few rain patches
over the region.
