A Filipina identified as a company manager was charged today, Dec 17, at Eastern Court of stealing $2,000 in banknotes that its owner forgot to take from the cash dispenser of an automated teller machine in IFC 2 Mall in Central.
R. Bermillo, 55, a resident of Lei Tung, Ap Lei Chau, appeared before Magistrate Bina Chainrai, who ordered the charge read out. No plea was taken.

The prosecution said on Dec 11, victim Lau Sum-yi went to a Bank of China ATM booth at the mall and withdrew $2,000. As she was in a hurry, she forgot to take the cash. But when she returned for it minutes later, the money was gone.
She reported the incident to bank staff, who reported it to the police. Officers reviewed the video footage and ATM transactions at the time and were able to trace the defendant.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Jan 13 next year at the request of the defense lawyer to obtain the documents from the prosecution and for legal advice. She extended the defendant’s bail until that date.

Meanwhile, two Filipina domestic helpers accused of separately stealing jewelry from their employers appeared for the first time in District Court today, Dec 17, where their scheduled plea taking was postponed until next year.

Edarlyn Emperador, who is facing a charge of stealing
$860,000 worth of assorted jewelry and watches from her employer in Homantin,
She was accused of stealing a Rolex watch, three Patek Philippe watches, a white gold Piaget watch, a Roger Dubuis watch, a pair of Hermes earrings, a platinum Roger Dubuis necklace and gold bars.
Also appearing before Woodcock was Revelyn Resurreccion, who was arrested on May 1 for allegedly stealing an undisclosed value of jewelry from her employer. She has been in custody since then.

Resurreccion was charged with stealing five necklaces with pendants, two necklaces, five pairs of earrings, one ring, and four bracelets from her employer Lai Ching, a resident of South Horizons.
Both cases were transferred to the higher court from the magistracies because of the seriousness of the alleged offences.

Judge Woodcock adjourned the hearing of both theft cases until Jan 27 as the lawyers said they need to seek legal advice and study the case documents.
The judge ordered Emperador and Resurreccion both returned to custody.
