Pinay ordered arrested after failing to show up for case

10 October 2018

A 30-year-old Filipina domestic worker has been ordered arrested by an Eastern Court magistrate after she failed to appear on Sept 14 for a hearing of her theft case.
Mardelyn Mae Bandiola must not also be granted bail, Magistrate Peter Law told the prosecution.

The Filipina is facing a charge of theft for allegedly stealing cash totaling $470 dollars from her employer Lee Yuen-shan Joyce between Aug 29 and 31. The offense  allegedly took place in the flat of Lee on the 13th floor of Tower 1, Dynasty Court in Mid-Levels.

Police arrested Bandiola shortly after the money went missing but was released on police bail and ordered to await her day in court.

But when the court reader called out the defendant’s name on Sept 14, Bandiola was nowhere in sight. The Tagalog interpreter who was told to look for her outside the courtroom returned alone after a few minutes. – Vir B. Lumicao
