Several groups led by United Filipinos-Migrante Hong Kong have reactivated its “Operation Migrante Sagip Kababayan” fund-raising drive for those affected by severe flooding in the Philippines, caused by monsoon rains and typhoon Crising (international name, Wipha), which intensified as it slammed into Hong Kong last Sunday.
The severe flooding continues in many parts of
Luzon, including Metro Manila; as well as the Visayas, even as another typhoon
named Dante is expected to hit the Philippines over the week.
Preliminary estimates by the Department of
Agriculture’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Operations Centre (DRRMOC)
show that at least P333 million worth of rice, corn and high crops as well as livestock, and poultry
have been lost due to the floods.
