Lying to Immigration officers to be able to get an employment visa as a domestic helper has resulted in a Filipina being jailed for four months.
Rovelyn Calimquim, 39 years old, pleaded guilty today in Shatin
Court to making a false statement for the purpose of obtaining an entry permit,
contrary to section 42(1) (c) of the Immigration Ordinance.
This law provides a penalty on conviction
on indictment, to a fine of $150,000 and to imprisonment for 14 years; and on
summary conviction, to a fine at level 6 ($100,000) and to imprisonment for two

But Magistrate Raymond
Wong set a starting point of just six months and gave Calimquim a one-third discount,
leaving a final sentence of 4 months.
Calimquim was charged with making a statement, “knowing the
same to be false or not believing the same to be true,” in obtaining an entry
permit, an employment visa to work as a foreign domestic helper in Hong Kong.
The false claim in the application for the entry permit, made
in Aug. 8, 2025, was that she would work for Danny Cheung Chiu Lung as a
foreign domestic helper.
