A trial at Shatin Court is all set for two domestic helpers -- a Filipina and an Indonesian -- charged with violating their conditon of stay after they were arrested while allegedly working in a store in Shek O Village.
Bambi Gabriel, 44 years old, and Wakinah, aged 44, had
earlier pleaded not guilty to identical charges of breach of condition of stay contrary
to section 41 of the Immigration Ordinance, and by virtue of Regulation 2 of
the Immigration Regulations.
In the pretrial review held on August 19 (Wednesday) both
the prosecution and defense presented the key points of their cases, with the
defense lining up three Immigration officers as witnesses for having arrested
the two, and 19 videos allegedly showing them performing illegal work.

Magistrate Pang Leung-ting had earlier scheduled the trial for
August 28 and 31.
He freed them on cash bail of $1,000 each. with conditions
such as not leaving Hong Kong before the case is resolved and reporting regularly
to a police station.
Gabriel was charged wth contravening a condition of stay
between May 4, 2023 and August 25, 2023, in that she cannot take up any
employment other than as a domestc helper, imposed by an Immigration Assistant
on December 28, 2022.
She was accused of performing odd jobs at Yeung Kee Store in
Shek O Village, without the approval of the Director of Immigration.

Wakinah was accused of the same offense, with the two only
having the conditions imposed on them on different dates.
The condition was imposed by an Immigration assistant on
Gabriel on Dec. 28, 2022 and on Wakinah on March 26, 2023 when they were
permitted to remain in Hong Kong for employment as domestic helpers for Tang,
Pui Chun.
