A Filipino bartender being held on a charge of trafficking 4.2 kilos of suspected ketamine was remanded in custody after appearing in West Kowloon court on May 8, as prosecutors asked for more time to prepare their case.
Richard Marc A. Benoza, 27, was told by Magistrate Ada Yim that he will have to return to court on Jul 13.
Benoza, who is said to hold a HK ID card, arrived on Jan 24 from a trip to Bangkok and was intercepted by Customs and Excise Department officers in Chek Lap Kok airport.
A search of his luggage yielded 17 packets of the dangerous drug stuffed into snack boxes. The drug is estimated to be worth $2 million.
A day earlier, another Filipino male bartender was charged in Eastern Court with possessing cannabis.
The 23-year-old resident was arrested on Mar 8 outside Winsome House on Wyndham Road, Hong Kong, during a police check.
