HK suspends Nepal Air after 3 passengers test positive on arrival

Nepal Air flight from Kathmandu was suspended after 3 of its passengers tested positive on arrival 

Eight imported cases of Covid-19 were reported in Hong Kong today, Oct. 7.

Four involved returning residents from Pakistan and three from Nepal; and one foreign domestic worker from the Philippines.

They took Hong Kong’s total infection tally to 12,251 confirmed cases.

As the three patients from Nepal all tested positive on their arrival tests on Oct 5, the government ordered flight RA409 from Kathmandu suspended from flying to Hong Kong for two weeks starting from today.     

The travelers from Nepal are all men, aged 39, 55 and 62. The second man was found to carry the L452R strain of the coronavirus while test results for the two others are still pending.


All received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine in Nepal in July.

Also testing positive on arrival is a 60-year-old woman from Pakistan who came on Oct 5 via EK384. She developed symptoms on her arrival, and was found to have the L452R strain. She had two doses of Sinopharm vaccine in Pakistan.


The rest of the passengers were all in quarantine, including the Filipina helper who was in Penny’s Bay quarantine centre when she tested positive for the L452R mutant strain.

She arrived in Hong Kong via CX 906 on Oct. 3, and was asymptomatic. She received two doses of the Sinovac vaccine in the Philippines on Jun 18 and Aug 3.

The three others are all men, aged 20, 28 and 30, who flew in on Oct 3 via EK384. One was found to carry the L452R mutant strain while the test results on the two others are pending.

Two of them were staying at Silka Far East Hotel in Tsuen Wan when they tested positive on their third-day sample. The other was at Ramada Grand hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Two received two jabs of Sinovac each in Pakistan on Jun 5 and Jul 17, while the 28-year-old was vaccinated with BioNTech in Hong Kong on Mar 17 and Apr 7,and tested positive for antibodies.
