Having someone elses’s Hong Kong ID card has landed a Filipina overstayer in jail for 15 months.
Lowela de la Cruz, 39 years old, was also sentenced at West Kowloon Court to two months in prison for having overstayed for two years, but this will run at the same time as the first sentence.
De la Cruz, who is unemployed and has no fixed abode in Hong
Kong, received the two sentences Friday (Jan. 24) when she appeared before Acting
Principal Magistrate Cheng Lim-chi, and pleaded guilty to the two charges
against her.

She was sentenced to 15 months for having in her possession
another Filipina’s HKID “without lawful authority or reasonable excuse”.
She was found to have violated the Registration of Persons
Ordinance after she was accosted by police officers to verify her identity, as
she was walking on the corner of Pei Ho and Fuk Wa St. in Sham Shui Po on Nov. 13
last year.

She was also sentenced to two months for breach of condition
of stay, after pleading guilty to remaining
in Hong Kong two years after the two-month grace period given to her, following
her termination as a domestic helper on Aug. 7, 2022.
