Those attending the 128th Independence Day celebration, either as participants of parades or onlookers, at Chater Road in Central tomorrow are advised to bring umbrellas, as the Hong Kong Observatory is forecasting rains on that day, and several more days after.
“Showers will be heavy at times with squally thunderstorms
tomorrow and on Monday,” the Observatory said.
“Members of the public should pay attention to weather tips
and warning messages issued by the Observatory, and be aware of the possible

“The weather will remain unsettled in the following couple
of days,” it said.
Asked earlier about preparations for the heavy rain that is forecast for tomorrow's event, Consul General Romulo Israel, Jr. said they will just have to hope for a lull in the bad weather so much of the day's activities can go ahead as planned.
The event has been planned for months, and includes a Filipino community parade, a festival of dances, dance contest and a Roman Catholic mass in the morning. It is a celebration of three big occasions: the 128th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence, Filipino Migrants Day nd the annual Kapangyawan or Friendship Festival.
Migrant Works Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and OWWA Administrator PY Caunan are due to fly in and greet those who will gather for the Filipino community's biggest event of the year.

The heavy rains started Saturday, with mainly cloudy and occasional showers and squally thunderstorms, because of an active southwest monsoon and a trough of low pressure, which will remain around Hong Kong for a few days.
“Showers will be particularly heavy over some areas tomorrow
(Sunday) and on Monday, accumulated rainfall may reach 200 millimetres in two
days,” the Observatory said.
