A domestic helper has been detained in jail over the theft of jewelry valued at a total of $1.6 million.
Rogela Caalem, a Filipina aged 33 years, had been charged at
Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts with theft, contrary to section 9 of the Theft
Ordinance.
In a hearing on
Thursday (Agust 27), Magistrate Lau Suk-han adjourned the case to October 22 for
mention.
Caalem is accused of stealing 19 pieces of jewelry, valued
at $1,608,300, the property of female Mao Sara Guo Jing.

Police alleged that she committed the theft between January 1
and June 26 this year at a house on Fei Ngo Shan Road, Tseung Kwan O, New
Territories.
Meanwhile, at Fanling Magistrates' Courts also on Thursday, Cristy
Mae Falales, 30 years old, was granted bail
of $2,000 by Acting Principal Magistrate Jason Wan so she could walk free until the
resumption of her theft case on October
22.
Falales is accused of stealing a memory card, two packs of
fish maw, seven cans of abalone, a $100 commemorative banknote, two pieces of $20
commemorative banknotes and 16 boxes of probiotics, with a total value at $19,740,
the property of female Poon Wun Hei, Alina.
Police alleged that she committed the theft between June 21
and 30 this year at a flat in Elegant Park, Ngau Tam Mei Road, Lok Ma Chau, New
Territories,
