Kwentong Pagkain
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong SAR is pleased to announce that Mama Sita Foundation (MSF) is inviting all Filipinos abroad to join the contest titled “Mga Kwentong Pagkain.”
The contest, with the theme “Regional Food Heritage,” is open to anyone willing to tell an interesting story about food-detailed accounts of local or regional recipes, ingredients, food preparation, rituals or personal experiences – anything that can further promote awareness and appreciation for Philippine cuisine. MSF believes that overseas Filipinos have their own stories to share and encourages them to join the competition.

Deadline for submission of applications is on 28 January 2018.

PaStaran 2017
All Filipino community organizations are invited to join PaStaran (Paligsahan sa Paggawa ng Parol). All parol entries must be made of recycled materials, and should measure between 0.8 to 1 meter in diameter. To join, register with the PCG ‘s cultural section between Nov 12 to Dec. 10, 2017. Videos of each entry running no longer than 2 minutes must be sent to the cultural section from Dec.17 up to no later than 5pm on Dec 20. The parols will then be displayed in Chater Garden starting at 4pm on Dec24. Winners will be announced during a program just before the Misa de Gallo Prizes of $5,000; $3,000; $2,000 and $1,000 will be awarded to the first four winning entries. Support Coins for Bethune 2017
Calling all Filipino community organizations! Please help raise much-needed funds for the Bethune House Migrant Women’s Refuge, which is looking after distressed women domestic workers. Save your coins and put them in donation cans that are distributed for free by Bethune House, or make your own container. Just get the stickers for the cans from Bethune to make sure your donation counts. Cans and stickets are available at the office of the Mission for Migrant Workers at St John’s Cathedral from Sunday to Friday. Deadline for submitting the filled-up cans is Sept. 17, 2017 in time for the 31st anniversary celebration of Bethune House on Chater Road. Every coin that you give helps give food and temporary shelter to migrant women in distress, as well as emergency, medical and legal assistance. LET Application Deadline Extended

Singer-comedian Mikey Bustos to perform in Hong Kong

Filipino-Canadian entertainer and YouTube star Mikey Bustos is coming to Hong Kong for an afternoon of music and laughter on May 28 at Duke of Windsor Social Service Building in Wan Chai. The event is presented by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association.

Dubbed as “The PinoyBoy”, Mikey achieved YouTube celebrity status due to his humorous videos about different aspects of Filipino culture. His music video parodies of contemporary pop songs and a capella covers have consistently garnered millions of views in the popular video streaming site.

Prior to his online fame, Mikey started his entertainment career as a contestant on the talent reality show Canadian Idol in 2003. He has toured internationally since 2004 and has performed as front act for major pop stars such as The Pussycat Dolls and Christina Aguilera. He now appears in Philippine TV shows and commercials while continuing to produce YouTube videos for his global audience.

The World Report Award/ Documenting Humanity 2017 (Photography contest), organized by the Festival of Ethical Photography is now open. The award will give attention to works focusing on people and their social and cultural stories; public or private, minor or crucial, big human tragedies or petty daily stories, changes and immutability.
These are the five categories in this seventh edition of the award:
1) Master Award: This section is open to all photographers, professionals or amateurs. Entries must consist of min 20 and max 40 images. The prize is 6,000 euros cash.
2) Spot Light Award: This section is open to all photographers who did not receive one of the following awards before Apr 1, 2017: World Press Photo, W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography, Pulitzer Prize, POYi Picture of the Year and World Report Award, with exception for the multimedia category.
Entries must consist of min 20 and max 40 images. The photographers, who apply to this session, can also apply to the Master Award session.
The prize is 3,000 euros cash.
3) Short Story Award: Open to all photographers. Entries must consist of min 5 and max 10 images. The prize will be of 1,500 Euros gross cash.
4) European Photographers Award | France 2017: This section focuses on the different nationalities of the European photographers, and this year, it is open to French photographers and is done in collaboration with ManifestO Festival of Toulouse (France). Entries must consist of min 20 and max 40 pictures. The prize is 1,500 euros cash and participation in the Festival of Ethical Photography in 2017 and during the ManifestO Festival in 2018.
5) Single Shot category: The award, which is being given for the first time, will focus on the image’s ability to convey a powerful message, embodying the theme in a single shot.
The theme for this award is “Fertile Solidarity”, which aims to be a hymn to solidarity that generates future progress. The spirit of togetherness is realized through actions which bring and support the progress of our entire society. The prizes are: first prize, 800 euros cash; second prize, 500 euros cash; third prize, 400 euros gross cash.

Join PaStaran 2016
For this year’s Parol-Making contest, participating groups may register with the Philippine Consulate’s cultural section from Nov. 13- Dec. 11, 2016. No late registration will be accepted.
The prizes are as follows: $5,000 for the grand prize; $3,000 for the 2nd prize; $2,000 for the 3rd prize; and $1,000 for the 4th prize.
As before, all entries must comply with the following requirements:
· The parol must be made of recyclable materials;
· Should be no bigger than 0.8 x 1meter
· The lights used should be powered by batteries

Caritas Asian Migrant Workers Social Service Project will hold a two-day Health Concern Days for foreign domestic workers on two Sundays: Dec 17 and Jan 8, 2017.
The schedule is as follows:
Day 1: Body check on Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, glucose, musculoskeletal assessment & level stress.
Dec 17, 2016 (Saturday), 2-5pm; and  Jan. 8, 2017 (Sunday), 10:30 am – 12:30pm and 2-5pm
Day 2: Result Explanation & Community Resource for Follow up
Dec 24 (Saturday), 10:30am – 12:30pm  (In English and Bahasa)
Jan. 15, 2017 (Sunday): 10:30am - 12:30pm (English); and 2:30-4:30pm (Cantonese & Bahasa)
