No flight ban was triggered for PAL because its 3 passengers got infected while in quarantine

Four Filipina domestic helpers, three of whom arrived together aboard Philippine Airlines flight PR 300 from Manila on Sept 22, are among eight confirmed Covid-19 infections reported in Hong Kong today, Sept 26.

The three, aged 38, 42 and 46, were already on their third day of hotel quarantine when found infected, so the flight suspension imposed by Hong Kong when at least three passengers test positive on arrival test, was not triggered.

The fourth case involves another Filipina domestic worker aged 36 who flew in also on Sept 22 but aboard Cebu Pacific flight 5J272.

All of the Filipinas were fully vaccinated, two in the Philippines and two in Hong Kong.

Three did not have symptoms, while one, a 46-year-old FDH who was in quarantine at Ramada Hotel in Sai Ying Pun, developed symptoms on the day she arrived. She had two jabs of the BioNTech vaccine in Hong Kong on May 5 and June 2.

Those without symptoms include the two other PAL passengers, a 42-year-old who was quarantined at Ramada Grand Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui; and a 38-year-old who was at Silka Tsuen Wan Hotel.

The first was vaccinated with BioNTech in Hong Kong on Apr 9 and May 1, while the second had the same vaccine in the Philippines on Jul 21 and Aug 12.

Also asymptomatic was the Cebu Pac passenger who had the Sinovac jabs in the Philippines on Jun 6 and Jul 21.

Four of the new cases tested positive for the L452R mutant strain, including one of the Filipinas who came via PAL.

The test results of two other Filipinas and a 64-year-old male patient who came from the United States, are still pending. The fourth FDH did not have enough viral load so it could not be tested for any variant.

The two others who carried the mutant strain both came aboard Qatar Air flight QR818 on Sept 24. One is a 49-year-old man who came from the Czech Republic and the second is a 13-year-old male teen who came from the Maldives.

The first was vaccinated with BioNTech in Hong Kong on Apr 19 and May 10, while the teenager is unvaccinated.

The US arrival whose test result is still pending came on Sept 21 via CX 845. He was in quarantine at Nina Hotel in Island South when he tested positive for Covid-19. He had his two doses of the BioNTech vaccine in Hong Kong on Mar 17 and Apr 8.

All the last three patients are asymptomatic.
