HK stops quarantine-free entry for Macau arrivals as 9 new Covid-19 cases recorded

All arrivals from Macau, including HK residents, will now be told to quarantine at home

Hong Kong will suspend the quarantine exemption of all arrivals from Macau starting at 10pm tonight, Sept. 25.

This was after two security guards working in a Macau quarantine hotel were confirmed to have the coronavirus, prompting the authorities there to order Covid-19 testing for all its 680,000 residents starting from 3pm today.

Quarantine-free privilege was extended to all travelers coming from Macau under the Come2hk scheme on Sept 15, while residents returning from there under the Return2hk scheme had enjoyed the benefit since Apr 29.

After the deadline, all Macau arrivals will be required to quarantine at home for 14 days if they have not been fully vaccinated; and for 7 days if fully vaccinated. They also need to undergo tests at prescribed times.

Meanwhile, nine imported cases were reported in Hong Kong today, with two patients coming in from the United Kingdom, two from Nepal, one from Indonesia, one from Singapore, one from Kazakhstan, one from Pakistan and one from Serbia.

Eight of them tested positive for the L452R mutant strain while the test result of one of the arrivals from Nepal, a 36-year-old man, is still pending.


The youngest patient is a nine-month-old baby boy from Serbia who was in quarantine at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Tung Chung when he tested positive on his third-day sample.

A 35-year-old Indonesian domestic helper who arrived on Sept 21 tested positive in a quarantine centre where she was taken after developing symptoms two days after arrival.

Those who came from the UK included a 57-year-old man who developed symptoms on arrival at Hong Kong airport on Sept 23 and was found infected on the same day.


Another UK arrival is also 57 years old and male and tested positive while under quarantine at 4 Points by Sheraton hotel on his Day 3 sample.

The patient from Singapore is 48 years old and female and tested positive on arrival in Hong Kong.


The one from Kazakshtan is an 18-year-old male who also tested positive while on his third day in quarantine at Ramada Harbour View Hotel in Sai Ying Pun.

The other patient from Nepal is a 25-year-old man who was also staying at Silka Seaview Hotel in Yau Ma Tei when he tested positive on his third-day sample.

The last patient, who came from Pakistan, is 43 years old, male, and had been under quarantine at Ramada hotel in Sai Ying Pun for three days when he was found infected.

All of the patients, except the baby boy, were fully vaccinated.
