Vaccinated Cambodian DH and US woman among 3 new imported cases

The three arrived early yesterday in HK and were confirmed to have Covid-19 on their first test

Two fully vaccinated women, a Cambodian domestic helper and a 19-year-old traveler from the United States, were among three imported cases of Covid-19 infection reported today, Aug. 1. The third is another female helper from Cambodia.

The staff said the first Cambodian helper was confirmed to be a carrier of the N501Y and E484K mutated strains of the coronavirus variant first detected in South Africa. Test results on the two others are still pending.

All three are asymptomatic.

In a press statement, the Centre for Health Protection said the first Cambodian helper, aged 41, received two doses of the Sinovac anti-Covid-19 vaccine in her country on Jun 4 and Jun 19.

The two Cambodian workers both came via Cathay Pacific flight CX 600 which left Phnom Penh late on Friday, and arrived at about 2am Saturday in Hong Kong.

The returnee from the US, on the other hand, received two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in the US on May 1 and May 22, the CHP said.  

She flew in aboard Air Canada flight AC015 from Toronto which arrived in Hong Kong at about 5am Saturday.

A total of 28 cases have been reported in the past 14 days, and all of them are imported cases, the CHP said.

Meanwhile, the CHP said it had been notified of a confirmed case in the United Kingdom, a 52-year-old female patient, who departed Hong Kong on Jul 15 to London via flight CX251.

Her specimen collected on Jul 18 tested positive for Covid-19 and she remains asymptomatic. The CHP said it is following up the case with the UK health authority, which is still making epidemiological investigations.

As a precaution, the building where she had resided during the incubation period - Lok Yuen, at 24 College Road, Kowloon City - will be put under a compulsory testing notice.
