The sentence, handed down on Jevie C. Senal, 32 years old, by Principal
Magistrate David Cheung, is one of the stiffest for the sum involved.
Senal was arrested at Hong Kong International Airport as she was about to board a flight to the Philippines.
She admitted accepting a reward of $1,000 for letting a friend take control of her bank account.

In sentencing, Magistrate Cheung said he consulted recent cases to come up with a starting
point of 18 months, and gave Senal a one-third discount for her guilty plea, resulting in a sentence of 12 months' imprisonment.
Senal was charged by police with dealing with property known
or believed to represent proceeds of indictable offence, contrary to sections
25(1) and 25 (3) of the Organized and Serious Crimes Ordinance.

$300,000 in her account with Hang Seng Bank Limited between July 11, 2023 and Aug.

She did this “knowing or having reasonable grounds to
believe that property … in whole or in part, directly or indirectly,
represented any person's proceeds of an indictable offence.”

bank account, $200,000 came from PW1 (prosecution witness 1) who described her
loss in a statement.
In her mitigation, Senal’s defense lawyer said she was
remorseful and underestimated the seriousness of her offense.
