If you take care of dogs, you must keep them leashed or in your control at all times when in a public place, or you will be in trouble, especially if it bites.
Maita Matin-ao, a 44-year-old domestic helper, learned this
lesson today after Deputy Magistrate Chung Wing-sze of Eastern Court dismissed the
review of previously imposed fines totalling $4,000 for three counts of violation
of Dangerous Dogs Regulation, made under the Dogs and Cats Ordinance.
Magistrate Chung confirmed the $2,000 imposed on Matin-ao for the first offense,
which took place last January 12, when she did not leash a black dog at a lawn
outside Block 31, La Costa, 31 Costa Avenue, Discovery Bay, Lantau Island. As a
result, the dog bit a person named Ng Tik.

A $1,000 fine was also confirmed for another January 12 instance
when she left the dog unleashed at the same place, “from which the said dog
might reasonably be expected to wander into a public place,” according to
information filed by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.
Magistrate Chung confirmed the other $1,000 fine on Matin-ao
for not securely holding the dog on a leash of not more than 2 meters in length
when it enters or remains in a public place at the same place and date.
