A Filipino asylum seeker has pleaded guilty to drug possession
at Eastern Court, but will have to wait more than a week to find out what his
penalty will be, after the magistrate ordered a report on his alleged drug dependence.
Principal Magistrate David Cheung, who adjourned the case to
September 10 for sentencing,will base the sentence on whether to put C.J. Arzaga, 41 years old, in jail or in a Drug Abuse Treatment Center for rehabilitation.

Arzaga was thus returned to jail last August 27 (Thursday) pending
receipt of the DATC report.
He faces the charge of possession of a
dangerous drug, contrary to sections 8 (1) (a) and (2) of the Dangerous Drugs
Ordinance, Cap. 134.
Arzaga is accused of having in his possession a dangerous
drug, namely one cartridge containing 0.79 gram of a liquid containing
etomidate:

The drug was discovered by police officers after he was
stopped and searched last July 15, at the junction of Eastern Street and Ham Yu
Street on Hong Kong Island.
Etomidate has become the most common type of drug abused
among reported young drug abusers since 2025, followed by cannabis and cocaine,
qccordingto a reportfromthe Narcotics Divisiohn of the Security Bureau.
