Call-up for HKID card replacements for those born in 1977 to 1979

New smart HKID card has more security features

The Immigration Department announced today, Aug 27, that Hong Kong residents born in 1977, 1978 or 1979 should apply for the new smart identity card in person, from Sept 20 to Nov 18, 2021.

The call-up covers all Hong Kong permanent residents and non-permanent residents taking up employment, investment, residence (including dependants), or study in Hong Kong.

Those who qualify must bring along their old HK ID card at any Smart Identity Card Replacement Centre, which are open from 8am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday, except public holidays.

Eligible Hong Kong residents who are absent from Hong Kong during their call-up period can apply within 30 days upon their return to Hong Kong.

Those who missed their call-up before should apply to get their new smart HKIDs at the Replacement Centres. “Flexible arrangement will be made according to the applicant's situation,” says an advisory on Immigration’s website.

Applicants are urged to book an appointment via HK Immigration’s mobile application, the internet  (www.gov.hk/newicbooking), or the 24-hour telephone booking hotline 2121 1234.

Immigration also appeals to applicants to pre-fill the application form when making booking an appointment through the mobile app or the internet to enjoy faster service.

Under a caring arrangement for the replacement exercise, each eligible applicant may bring along up to two family members or friends aged 65 or above and two persons with disabilities to replace their identity cards together during the same visit to an SIDCC.

Smart ID card replacement is ongoing for children born in 2005 to 2007 (aged 14-17) or 2012 to 2018 (aged 3 to 9) and will end on Saturday, Sept 18.


Those belonging to this age group who have not yet applied for a new smart identity card should do so as early as possible, in the company of a parent or legal guardian.
