No more HKID replacement without appointment

01 February 2023

Walk-ins will no longer be entertained at SIDCCs and ROP offices

The Immigration Department said today, Feb. 1, that all residents (including foreign domestic workers) applying to replace their Hong Kong ID cards with Smart IDs will now have to make a prior appointment.

Immigration’s statement said all Registration of Persons Offices (ROP) and Smart Identity Card Replacement Centres (SIDCCs) will no longer handle applications without appointments.

Those with an urgent need to replace their ID cards which have been lost, destroyed, damaged or defaced, will be attended to based on individual  circumstances.

The move comes in the wake of a large number of residents without appointments who had approached the two offices for ID card services.

The rush could have also been prompted by Immigration’s announcement that all SIDCCs will stop operating by Mar 3 this year, so all replacement applications can only be made at ROPs.

Immigration  reminded all residents to make appointments before proceeding to any ROP offices or SIDCCs “to ensure residents could apply for identity cards in a smooth and orderly manner.”
