The “Pink Walk” is back.
The
signature charity walk of the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation will be held
again at the Peak on Oct. 15, a Sunday. The event used to be held each year but
was cancelled for the past three years because of the pandemic.

The walk aims
to raise breast cancer awareness, and also to raise funds to support HKBCF’s
breast cancer screening and patient support services for women struggling to
fight the disease.

The walk is
open to anyone, but they must register for a fee here: https://pinkwalk.hk/en.

Individuals
and small groups of up to 19 persons are asked to pay $380 each to join. School
teams get a discounted rate of $230 per person, while institutions that send 20
or more participants will pay $300 for each.
The
kick-off ceremony will be held from 10am to 10:30am, while the walk around the
Peak will be held until 1pm.

A number of
awards and prizes await participants, including the "Highest Fundraising
Award", "Most Active Participation Award" and "Presentation
Award".
Breast
cancer is the most common cancer afflicting women in Hong Kong, and the third
leading cause of cancer deaths among them, after lung and colorectal cancers.

In 2021, a
total of 791 women died from this cancer, accounting for 12.4% of all cancer
deaths in females. The death rate of breast cancer was 19.6 per 100,00 female
population. The median age at diagnosis was 58 years.
The crude
annual incidence rate per 100, 000 women was 122.
