A 27-year-old Filipina tourist arriving from Bangkok who was arrested at the airport in October last year for allegedly smuggling 15.5 kilos of marijuana buds, returned to jail today after appearing at the West Kowloon Court.
Ma Cristina Fernandez, 27 years old and works as a freelancer,
faces the charge of trafficking in a dangerous drug, contrary to sections
4(1)(a) and (3) of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance
Since she has no fixed place of abode in Hong Kong, Principal
Magistrate Don So remanded her in jail as he adjourned the case to September 23
for mention.

Fernandez is accused of unlawfully trafficking in a
dangerous drug, after 15.5 kilos of cannabis buds were found in her luggage on October
18, 2025 at the Baggage Examination Counter S7, Customs Arrival Hall B of the Hong
Kong International Airport.
The Customs and Excise Department, which filed the
complaint, estimated its market value at $3.1 million.
Fernandez was one of two persons arrested that day,
resulting in the seizure of about 26 kilos of suspected cannabis buds, with a
total estimated market value of $5.2 million.
The other person arrested was a 26-year-old female passenger
who arrived in Hong Kong from Bangkok, and whose luggage yielded 10.5 kilos of
suspected cannabis buds with an estimated market value of about $2.1 million.
